We’re extremely excited to drop the spaced-out Clandestine Cassette # Three directly into your deck. It’s the third compilation in Northern Spy’s ongoing series which attempts to get thematic but most importantly showcases artists, musicians and friends that we cherish. Clandestine Cassette # Three will be available for the first time on the first night of Spy Music Fest: Saturday, September 7th at Spectrum. Two artists from the tape, ODO and Driphouse, will be performing. Oh, and the 7th happens to be the first annual Cassette Store Day. Much like the faceless headdress hovering above a crowd in Amélie Chunleau’s collage, the musicians featured on Clandestine Cassette # Three use their faceless monikers to hang in the atmosphere and evoke mystery and intrigue. Expo 70 (Justin Wright) from Kansas City brings us a snapshot of one of his elongated Krautrock jams, ODO (Mark Dwinell from the trio Forma) shows us how much of an impact he has on the compositions and direction of Forma. Driphouse (Daren Ho) has been an amazing resource in the music community with his brick and mortar synthesizer store, Control, and his project is constantly evolving with every performance. Animal Hospital (Kevin Emil Micka from Neptune) was one of the most creative and engaging projects we saw at Spy Music Festival in 2011. We are pleased and honored to have everyone involved in this compilation. Curated by Michael Hentz Originally from Upstate, NY, Michael Hentz is a musician and promoter who started his own music and art production company in Syracuse called New Thing Productions in 2002 and currently resides in Brooklyn working with various musicians. Currently, Michael is producing shows through his event company Los Chicos Perdidos and playing solo as Heavy Hymns.
